Our Chess Team are off to the State Finals next month after finishing 3rd overall in the Regional Semi-Finals on Thursday 29th August at Wallsend. Vu also took out 5th place in the Individual Trophy; an outstanding individual achievement.
The competition was fierce with the best teams from Central Coast, the Hunter to the Far North Coast all vying for a place in the finals. Callaghan College was represented by 5 teams in the Regional Semi-Finals, with a Waratah and Wallsend team progressing to the State Finals; an exceptional result for the college.
The tournament was a 7-round ‘Swiss’ competition. This means that all players played all seven rounds of the tournament. The top 5 in the individual trophy and the the top 3 schools from each Division (Primary and Secondary) qualified for the State Final to be held in Sydney on Friday 25th October, 2019.
Congratulations to all involved and a special thanks to Ms Seferovic and Ms Hurn for their support.
