Callaghan Tutorial Centre (CTC), previously Seachange Tutorial Centre, was established in 2006 as a regional intensive behaviour intervention program. It is located on the grounds of Callaghan College Waratah Campus in Newcastle.
About the Callaghan Tutorial Centre
The Centre provides placement for up to 14 students in Years 7 and 8 who have been referred for behavioural and/or emotional problems in mainstream schooling. Placements are temporary with students maintaining enrolment at their home school during their time at CTC. We offer a 5-0 model, whereby students attend CTC monday - Friday with the aim to transition back to their home-school placement or an alternative setting.
Rationale
To prepare students for re-entry into mainstream schooling or an alternate educational setting through access to academic opportunities and social skills programs underpinned by a holistic and collaborative approach.
Programs
Callaghan Tutorial Centre operates Monday to Friday. Students engage in full academic curriculum - with Positive Behaviour for Learning and You Can Do It! Programs and strategies underlying the behavioural learning and expectations. All students learn through access to a variety of technology. Regular community outings are linked to behavioural learning outcomes, complimenting CTC reward system.
Applications
All applications must be made from the student's mainstream school for consideration by the Newcastle Regional Behavioural Placement Panel. Please contact your school for more information.
