Creative and Performing Arts

In Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), students engage in a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts in both theory and practical lessons.  

Studying the creative and performing arts, students learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform. Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Stage 4 (Year 7 and 8)

Visual Arts and Music are mandatory for all students in Year 7 and 8.

Music

In the Music mandatory course, students will study:

  • the concepts of music
  • through the learning experiences of performing, composing and listening
  • within the context of a range of styles, periods and genres.

Visual Art

In the Visual Art mandatory course, students will study:

  • practice (artmaking, critical and historical studies)
  • the conceptual framework
  • the frames in making and interpreting art

Stage 5 (Year 9 and 10)

Students can continue their studies of CAPA in Year 9 and 10 by selecting CAPA elective subjects for 100 hours or 200 hours.

Facilities and staff

Waratah Campus has well-resourced Music, Art, Dance and Drama facilities including recording studio, dance/drama theatre, photography studio/dark room and specially trained staff who support students to achieve their creative endeavours.
