Sport opportunities on campus
Waratah Campus provides sport activities for students across all ability levels. The program is designed to be inclusive and all students are encouraged to participate.
Integrated sport - Year 7
Starting in 2025, our Year 7 students will experience integrated sport, which means that they will engage in a variety of physical activities as part of their broader learning experience. The focus will be on fostering teamwork, enhancing physical fitness, and encouraging a well-rounded approach to sports, all while developing important life skills such as communication and leadership.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in weekly external sport choices from Year 8.
Weekly sport - Year 8 to 10
The weekly sport programs consists of a double period every Wednesday where students can participate in a sport or recreational activity of their choice. Activities can include onsite games or off-site activities like surfing, trampolining, laser tag, tenpin bowling, putt putt golf, fitness training and more (some activities will require travel to an external location).
Representative sport
For students interested in competitive sporting activities, there are a number of opportunities:
- Hunter Region Trials – for high achieving athletes. Students can attend trials for selection into Hunter Region teams for a number of sports.
- Carnivals – College or campus carnivals are held for swimming, athletics and cross country, giving students an opportunity to progress to Zone and beyond.
- Knock out competitions and Gala Days - Callaghan College Teams compete in open and age division competitions across a range of sports including representative rugby league, soccer, netball (girls), basketball, cricket (boys), Touch and Futsal.
All students interested in competing in representative sport are encouraged to introduce themselves to our Representative Sport Coordinator (Miss Bradley) to let her know their sporting interests. It is important students listen out for the sports report at assembly to ensure they don’t miss upcoming sporting opportunities.
Breaktime Sport Competition
Students have the opportunity to take on the staff and other student teams in Waratah's Breaktime Sport competition. This is held during some recess and lunch breaks, with different sports each term. Check out Daily Notices for more information.
