Technology and Applied Studies

In Technological and applied studies (TAS), students use a range of tools, materials and techniques in the design process and engage in a diverse range of technological experiences through theory and practical lessons.

Technological and applied studies (TAS) is mandatory for all students in Year 7 and 8.

Students at Waratah Campus can also select from a range of elective TAS subjects.

As students progress through their studies they will:

  • become increasingly sophisticated in their ability to design and produce solutions to address real world problems and needs
  • have the opportunity to specialise through a range of syllabuses addressing particular technologies and aspects of design.

Stage 4 (Year 7 and 8):

Technology – Years 7 & 8

This is a mandatory course consisting of areas of study in:

  • Digital Technologies
  • Agriculture and Food Technologies
  • Engineered Systems
  • Materials Technologies

Students are encouraged to Design, Produce and Evaluate, supported by a Design Folio. A range of design-related content to support the above is presented through exposure to Agriculture, Computers, Food, Textiles, Timber, Metal and Electronics environments. The completion of this course results in the development of reflective, flexible and creative thinking skills central to the Year 7 and 8 Technology (mandatory) course.  Workshop facilities and specially trained staff support students learning while access to the latest information technologies assists students in making their designs a reality.

Stage 5 (Year 9 and 10)

Students can continue their studies of TAS in Year 9 and 10 by selecting TAS elective subjects for 100 hours or 200 hours.
